Modern Slave Masters

This is a true account of what transpired in the 1800s when Slavery was still in effect in the United States of America.
"A man was a slave to another man, to whom he was property, to be used and disposed of at his owner’s will and whim. This slave had settled into his fate, especially since he was privileged to be his owner’s personal slave. One of his duties was to operate the carriage that carried his owner on his outings and journeys.
One day the owner told the slave to prepare for a journey into Canada, where the owner had some business to transact.
At the time, Canada was still a colony of England where slavery had been abolished. Therefore, technically, no one could own another person in Canada.
When the slave and his owner arrived in Canada, the abolitionist, who were still quite active there, immediately seized the opportunity to free the slave, who had come with his owner. After some protesting by the owner, he eventually left without his slave, who had been freed by law in Canada.
The experience of freedom was new to the slave, and very exciting. All of his wishes had come true.
But after a few months of freedom, he gradually began to experience the personal responsibilities that came with being free. He now had to make decisions about what to do, and how to work to sustain himself.
Soon he realized that the “freed men” of his own race living in Canada were only better off in name. They faced the same discrimination as he was used to at home. He saw too that he was equally as exploited as he tried to earn a living in Canada. Then, he wondered whether he was not better off in his former situation where, at least, the society did not disguise its prejudice and hatred. Besides, as a slave, back home, he had a place to live, and a patch of land on which to grow his own food.
After struggling, trying to survive in Canada, he decided to go back to his former owner in hopes of being taken back as a slave.
The story ends by saying that he was able to return to his former owner and that he became a slave again. But it does not tell us how he was received, or what happened to him thereafter".
Sadly, this story paints a picture of how very little the world has changed.
How many people, today, are still struggling to exist under impossible situations contrived by prejudice, discrimination greed and hatred? How many are forced into untenable and dehumanizing acts or situations, just to survive, while those who paved the way look down on them condemning? How many will do anything to maintain their privileges or way of life, at the expense of others? Or how many will quietly do nothing to stop actions that secure their privileged status, pretending that they do not know, or do not see how it exploits others? How many realize that in so doing, or feigning ignorance, we support modern slavery, even though we own no chattel?
Today we have add mental slavery, even though the majority thus enslaved feel no physical pain or discomfort. Yet, the psychological anguish caused by this form of slavery is no less devastating to the psyche.
Another thing that the history of mankind shows, is that those who were once enslaved, tend almost invariably to become Slave owners or Masters, directly or indirectly. They start by first enslaving their co-citizens. And then, what is incredible, they gradually entice those who they oppress to support their aggressions further afield, with promises of a better Temporal or Religious future. These facts are clearly evident in various exploitative trade agreements, Wars or Crusades/Jihads of recorded history.
Perhaps the honest observer should see in this an affirmation of what Christ said - “You see the mote in thy brother’s eye and not the beam in thine own”. We see our oppressors, but not the oppressor in us.
We are ready to fight for the big causes; to solve global and social problems as long as we do not have to give up any of our privileges. Not realizing that therein lies the root cause of most social and international conflicts. Herein lies another adage “Small causes, Big effects”.
If we are truly serious about addressing these problems shouldn’t we be asking ourselves: “At whose expense am I maintaining or preserving my privilege or life style?” Or, “What personal gain is driving my actions even though I strive to present myself outwardly as altruistic?”
In the book “In The Light of Truth” (The Grail Message) Abdrushin explains that according to the law of Karma we are collectively guilt for many of the problems that we fight to resolve, because in more ways than we realize, we are contributors to them.
He also explains that through the problems we subsequently experience, we are being given the opportunity to see the consequences of our open and secret actions or desires. Thus, by looking at our problems dispassionately, and using Christ’s advice about seeing the beam in our eyes versus the mote in our perceived oppressor, we should gradually awaken to see and acknowledge our role in bringing these problems into being. Regardless of whether we were actively involved, or we are silent observers.
Jesus Christ already told us “Love thy neighbor as thyself”. By this we need to understand that only acts carried out in the spirit of true selflessness harbor true Love for one’s neighbor. Abdrushin, in elaborating on that simple statement explains how Creation Laws make Christ’s advice inviolable, if we wish to live in Peace and Harmony.
This advice is more critical now because anyone who wishes to survive the oncoming upheavals must have matured enough, through personal experiences to voluntarily desire nothing other than living in true love of his or her neighbor, i.e. in accordance with the Will of The Creator. As both Christ and Abdrushin have said, those who cannot make the voluntary change will no longer be able to exist in the new coming time, whose imminence some can already sense, but are too afraid or too preoccupied with other pursuits to pay attention. Yet, without this attention and acknowledgement one cannot begin to seek in the right way.
All of this may sound far-fetched to many. Nonetheless, we have been warned. It is now left to the individual to listen and begin to work on themselves in order to change completely, inwardly and outwardly.
